FAQs

  FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSimage

How long does a massage last?

A full relaxation or therapeutic massage is usually 60 to 90 minutes.   A back massage or upper body massage is usually 30 minutes.

Will I have to completely undress?

Clients are encouraged to dress down to their level of comfort. This may vary from client to client or even from treatment to treatment. Full relaxation and therapeutic massages can be performed with the client fully clothed, however, the therapeutic value of massaging the soft tissue is greatly enhanced when massage is performed  directly on the skin.

Can I talk during the massage?

This depends on the client and their expectations for the massage treatment. Conversation is usually kept to a minimum except for clarification of comfort and pressure, however, if  the client is more relaxed with conversation, the Therapist can oblige. Clients are certainly encouraged to speak up if they feel uncomfortable, if they need to adjust their body, if they are too warm / too  cold, etc.

What if I don’t want my face, my feet, or some other part of my body massaged?

Simply make your requests known to the Therapist before the treatment begins and your wishes will be accommodated.

How will my privacy be protected during the massage?

Full relaxation and therapeutic massages take place in a private room with a “massage treatment in session” notification placed on the door. The client is appropriately draped with sheets at all times during the massage.

Under what conditions would massage therapy not be appropriate?

Medical conditions such as stroke or cancer may contraindicate massage treatment. A medical physician's approval may be required. Massage therapy has overall positive effects on the majority of most medical conditions, even cancer.

Are other treatments available for conditions for which massage treatment is not recommended?

Cranial Sacral Therapy, Reiki Therapy, Acupuncture, Stone Therapy, as well as a host of other modalities are all viable alternatives when massage is contraindicated. However, these therapies   are viable treatments in their own right and should seriously be considered as complementary treatments to massage therapy or traditional medical treatment.

What does a massage treatment cost?

Typically a one-hour full body relaxation / therapeutic massage will cost anywhere from $50 to $175 depending on the treatment and whether it is in spa environment. See the services and rates page for specific prices.

Will my insurance cover massage therapy?

Most insurance companies still do not cover massage therapy unless it is prescribed by a physician. Some companies will allow employees to use their supplemental insurance or flexible spending account to cover the cost of massage therapy.
